The 77th Brigade, a change agent with a motto ‘influence & outreach’, is a British Army formation, created in January 2015 based at Denison Barracks in Hermitage, Berkshire becoming operational in April 2015. It was named the 77th in tribute to the 77th Indian Infantry Brigade who used unorthodox tactics against the Japanese in Burma in World War II They use social media suchas Twitter and Facebook as well as psyop techniques to influencepopulations&behaviour. David Miller (the co-founder and co-director of the non-profit company Public Interest Investigations) said 77th is "involved in manipulation of the media including using fake online profiles". They not only ‘counter’ disinformation, but also watch social media, analysing how disinformation, including their own, spreads; mapping the internet and the networks of people sharing content between each other.
