Carbon Capture

A carbon capture plant in Iceland, operated by Climeworks, has been reported to emit more carbon dioxide than it captures during its operations, according to news reports from Redd-Monitor and Heimildin. This plant, called Orca, is designed to capture 4,000 tons of CO2 annually, but has reportedly captured only 1,058 tons since 2021, while its own emissions in 2023 were 1,700 tons, according to a report by REDD-Monitor. This means the plant's emissions outweigh its capture rate, according to Heimildin.
